2009年情人節前夕，財團法人精神健康基金會發表關於「戀愛、親密關係與精神健康」之調查報告。調查指出，台灣20歲以上成人有一成四(約220萬)在建立親密關係上蒙受困擾，這群人在精神健康指數平均得分為73.4分，遠低於全國平均值80.1分。該調查中亦發現，台灣有13.3%的成人(約210萬人口)沒有談戀愛的經驗，這些人的精神健康指數得分為77.6分，與有戀愛經驗者的80.5分相比亦顯著較低。精神健康基金會董事長、台大醫學院精神科主任胡海國指出，缺乏戀愛經驗、在親密關係經營發生困擾者，常意味著在人際或生活的某些層面發生問題，連帶對精神健康狀況造成負面影響。（完整影音報導）
