美鋁 澳洲關廠砍千人

繼豐田等汽車製造商結束澳洲生產後，美國鋁業巨擘美鋁（Alcoa）也宣布將關閉澳洲三處工廠、裁員近1,000人，使澳洲製造業再受重擊。
美鋁18日宣布，預定8月結束維多利亞州吉隆市的Point Henry煉鋁廠營運，並準備在年底關閉吉隆與雪梨兩處軋鋁廠。
美鋁董事長暨執行長柯萊菲德說：「雖然當地團隊認真工作，但這些資產不再具競爭力。」
Point Henry煉鋁廠有50年歷史，是美鋁與澳洲Alumina公司的合資企業，美鋁持股60%。關廠將使美鋁的全球煉鋁產能減少19萬公噸，降至370萬公噸。
自美鋁攜手沙烏地阿拉伯礦業公司在沙國興建全球成本最低的煉鋁廠後，去年5月起已陸續關閉或減產歐美的高成本工廠。
